I do think you're right, a diplomatic 'out' is going to be required for face saving, otherwise there will be a tantrum.

A few years ago I was lucky enough to go to Istanbul through the Bosporus and Dardanelles straights. So much cool history there and I was excited to learn more about it.

I think Russia hit two ships on the first day by accident. One was a tanker full of oil, which was scary. Both fires were put out.
