Rivers Hold The Secrets Of Infinity
Joni Mitchell — River
A piano twinkles.
Notes repeating softly,
drip like water
falling from my fingertips
landing on the rocks below
echoing the end of love.
I see you in my skin.
My lonely heart
holds the memories
in the membranes
of our love.
I see you in the flick.
of my paddle
as drops of water
fly across into the sea.
The notes descend
in minor keys
and whisper deepest
longings to the past.
I see you as I lift my cup
with trembling hands
and trace the tiny roses
of the pattern painted there.
We toasted to our love
dipping for the liquid
from the depths
of the stream.
