It's so tricky and there are lots of nuances. And history between all of the players. I'm glad this article gave you some hope. I think Putin was surprised at how hard Ukraine fought back. I don't think he expected so much resistance.

They aren't out of the woods yet, and I hope Putin finds a way to back down in a face-saving way.
